Introduction to DawnScan

A scanner service that automatically captures pre-breakout early signals for US stocks — we transparently disclose our operational purpose, methodology, and data sources.

What is DawnScan?

DawnScan is a US stock monitoring service that automatically scans over 6,000 NASDAQ and NYSE listed stocks after market close each day to capture technical preparation signals before a surge (pre-breakout early signals).

The goal is to identify stocks that are not already significantly up, but are in a state just before a breakout, such as volatility contraction, accumulation, and relative strength advantage. The scanner results are accompanied by AI-generated explanations in Korean, and the hit rate is transparently disclosed for both successes and failures.

Operational Purpose and Entity

DawnScan operates as a reference tool for individual investors. It is not intended for investment solicitation, asset management, or financial brokerage.

The operator is a software engineer and an individual interested in US stock investment who developed it for personal use and expanded it into a public service. For inquiries related to the service, please use the contact page.

Methodology Summary

The scanner evaluates the following technical signals to select top stocks.

  • Bollinger Squeeze — detection of volatility contraction (energy compression)
  • OBV Accumulation — leading rise in supply and demand during price consolidation
  • Relative Strength (RS) — price advantage compared to the S&P 500
  • VCP Base — convergence of price range below resistance
  • RSI Pullback — preparation period for a rebound without overheating
  • ADX, Volume, Gap Up — detection of trend strength and supply/demand anomalies

The full explanation of the algorithm is available on the methodology page.

Data Sources

  • Stock Price and Volume OHLCV — yfinance (Yahoo Finance unofficial API, up to 20 minutes delayed)
  • Dividend Information — yfinance
  • AI Explanation Generation — LLM (large language model) via litellm
  • Stock Universe — self-collected data from NASDAQ and NYSE listed stocks

yfinance is an unofficial data source for Yahoo Finance, and some stock data may be delayed or missing. It is not real-time data, and accuracy of the figures is not guaranteed.
