How it works โ these funds sell call options against stocks or ETFs they hold and pay out the option premium as the dividend. Single-stock YieldMax ETFs rotate across four groups (A/B/C/D) weekly, which reads like a weekly payment schedule, but each individual holding actually pays roughly once every 4 weeks.

- NAV erosion โ if option premiums fall short or the underlying surges, net asset value can decline persistently.
- Payment variability โ the amount can swing widely from one payment to the next based on option premiums. Don't assume the last payment repeats.
- Double downside if the underlying falls โ a falling underlying stock drags the ETF price down and shrinks option premiums, cutting the dividend too.
